Picture this: You are on vacation in Europe, and on your last day the proprietor of your B&B asks you over for tea. You begin to feel dizzy and the last thing you remember is someone laughing…. When you awake you do not know where you are. One thing you know for sure – you need to get out of here quick!

Last night, Sherry and I got together with Wendy & Yale, Heike & Boris, Gail & Steve for an early birthday celebration at Coral Seafood in White Plains.

Then we headed over to the Puzzle Parlor a few blocks away. It’s a cleverly decorated place and the team members were helpful and very nice. Most of us had never experienced an escape room before and we did not know what to expect next.

After getting instructions, we “woke up” in a series of dirty, dingy operating and medical rooms. There were body parts scattered everywhere and blood on the walls as we attempted to work our way through nine puzzles in less than an hour. We were told the difficulty level was 7 out of 10 – and at first we were wondering if we could figure them out at all.

We did manage to blast through the first two challenges quickly, but then really needed to put on our thinking caps. The story was written well and each of the clues we found permitted us to progress to open six boxes and four different rooms in the small, dimly lit space. When we reached the operating room, we found a birthday card and candy among the body parts. Nice surprise!

We worked well as a team, each of us contributing a piece of the puzzle to find the solution for each of the steps. We needed assistance from a helpful ghost only a couple of times, but we managed to “ecape” in 50 minutes. It was a fun activity and we would happily try another one.
